Dinner Honoring PRC Vice Premier Wang Qishan and the PRC Delegation to the Strategic Economic Dialogue
Approximately 600 people attended the reception and dinner, which were co-hosted by USCBC, the United States Chamber of Commerce, and the National Committee on US-China Relations. Attendees included Secretary of Agriculture Ed Shafer, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, US Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt, Jr., PRC Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong and other PRC government officials, US government officials and members of Congress, USCBC board members and member companies, think tank representatives, and other special guests. Reception for Incoming USCBC Board Chair and New Directors
USCBC held a reception to welcome its new chair, Andrew Liveris, chairman & CEO of Dow Chemical Co., and new directors at the Smithsonian Institution's Freer Gallery of Art. About 125 guests attended the event, including PRC Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong and other PRC government officials, US government officials and members of Congress, and USCBC board members and member companies. 35th Annual Membership Meeting
USCBC kicked off the 35th Annual Membership Meeting by announcing the election of its board of directors. The meeting also featured presentations on trade and investment developments in China, government affairs best practices, operational trends in China, and US-China relations. Representatives from each of the three presidential campaigns--Gary Gensler, senior Clinton advisor; Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain economic advisor; and Jeffrey Bader, Obama China adviser--spoke at a luncheon panel on how the presidential candidates view China and China trade issues. Beijing China Operations 2008 Conference
USCBC held its Beijing China Operations 2008 conference on May 21. US Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt, Jr. delivered the luncheon keynote address on the past and future of US-China business relations as a tribute to USCBC's 35th anniversary. Other presentations covered China's economy and foreign investment plans, government affairs in China, China in US politics, logistics and human resources challenges, corporate structures and financial planning, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and China in the media. Forecast 2008
USCBC hosted its Forecast 2008 evening reception and conference at the St. Regis Hotel. More than 100 guests from business, government, and academia attended each event. PRC Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Minister Xie Feng addressed guests at the evening reception; US Trade Representative Susan Schwab and former secretary of Defense William Cohen gave keynote speeches at the conference. JCCT & SED Reception
USCBC held a reception attended by nearly 140 people including senior representatives of the US government visiting Beijing to participate in the JCCT and the Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED), the highest level meetings between the US and PRC governments, in December. (Beijing, December 10)
Gala 2007
USCBC hosted nearly 500 guests at its Gala 2007 at the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC, on December 5. Along with a keynote speech by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Congressmen Rick Larsen (D-2nd WA) and Mark Kirk (R-10th IL) were honored for their leadership of the US-China Working Group. USCBC Chair and Chairman, President, and CEO of the Boeing Co. W. James McNerney, Jr. and other USCBC board members were on hand as well. (Washington, December 5)
Shanghai China Operations 2007 Conference
The members-only conference included presentations and panel discussions on trademark enforcement and regulation, the 17th Chinese Communist Party Congress, US politics with regard to China, the changing PRC regulatory environment for foreign-invested enterprises, PRC Customs, and staff management. Luncheon Featuring James A. Baker and Clark T. Randt
The USCBC hosted James A. Baker III, former US Secretary of State (1989-92), Treasury (1985-88), and Under Secretary of Commerce (1975), in Beijing. Baker, who was introduced by US Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt, Jr., spoke on enhancing Sino-US bilateral cooperation. (Beijing, September 13)

The USCBC, US Chamber of Commerce, and China General Chamber of Commerce-USA co-hosted a reception and dinner in honor of PRC Vice Premier Wu Yi and a ministerial delegation in Washington, DC, on May 24. More than 600 guests attended the event.

PRC Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs He Yafei, who was in Washington for meetings with US government officials on the bilateral relationship and the US-China Senior Dialogue (also known as the "Strategic Dialogue"), delivered remarks on US-China relations, including the Senior Dialogue, plans for the upcoming Strategic Economic Dialogue, and visit by PRC Vice Premier Wu Yi to Washington in May. The evening reception featured remarks by Representatives Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), PRC Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Zheng Zeguang, and Assistant US Trade Representative (USTR) for China Tim Stratford. Forecast 2007 Conference
The conference assembled panels of renowned China experts and opinion leaders who offered prognostications for the bilateral relationship in the year ahead. Forecast speakers included Harry Harding, director of Research and Analysis at the Eurasia Group; Cheng Li, Brookings Institution visiting fellow; Jonathan Anderson, chief economist for Asia Pacific, UBS AG; Robert Poole, USCBC vice president for China Operations; and Brian Pomper and Beau Schuyler, founding partners of Parven Pomper Schuyler Inc. and former Democratic congressional staffers. The conference concluded with a luncheon address by Deputy USTR Karan Bhatia on the Bush administration's approach to the US-China trade relationship in 2007. (Washington, February 8)
