Luncheon Featuring James A. Baker and Clark T. Randt

James A. Baker III, former secretary of State and the Treasury, noted in his speech that US preeminence and the rise of China are two historic trends shaping international affairs in the new century.

Clark T. Randt, Jr. the longest-serving US Ambassador to China, provided introductory remarks at the luncheon.

Baker also stated that China's emergence on the global stage does not portend inevitable conflict with the United States.
