Xie Xuren

Xie Xuren was appointed Minister of Finance (MOF) on August 30, 2007. He is a member of the 17th Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee.
Xie was born in October 1947 in Ningbo, Zhejiang. In 1967, he began work at the Zhenhai Machinery Factory in Ningbo where he worked for 15 years and eventually rose to the post of deputy factory director. Xie joined the CCP in 1980 and studied industrial economic management as part of a special degree program for CCP cadres at Zhejiang University from 1981 to 1984. Xie held magisterial posts in Zhejiang's Yuyao and Yinxian counties in 1984 and 1985; he was also deputy party secretary of Yinxian County in 1984-85.
Beginning in 1985, Xie spent five years working at the Zhejiang Provincial Planning and Economic Commission with responsibilities for planning and investment. After graduating to deputy director of the commission in 1988, Xie moved to MOF in 1990. From May 1990, Xie worked in various capacities at MOF including deputy director of the Budget Department, assistant to the minister, and deputy director at the Comprehensive Planning Department; he became director of the department in 1993. Xie was promoted to vice minister of Finance in 1995.
From 1998 to 2000, Xie served as president of the Agricultural Development Bank of China and worked as a party official with the Financial Work Committee and later the State Economic and Trade Commission. Xie left his position as vice minister of the commission in 2003 and served as director of the State Administration of Taxation, where he was also CCP Secretary. Xie held these posts until 2007, when he became minister of Finance.
